AI felt like a vending machine. Prompt in, answer out. I began building it into the workday while most people still saw it as a curiosity. The call was right, but the ceiling kept moving. What began as a better way to get answers became a new way to think, create, and work.

Websites, dashboards, and complete applications began appearing from plain-language instructions. I was building and releasing them while the idea still sounded like hype. The opportunity was real. So was the catch: building software and shipping dependable software are two different jobs. I learned the second one by doing it.

AI began completing real work on my behalf while "agentic" was still an insider term. That introduced a more important class of questions: What is it allowed to do? What can it see? Who approves its decisions? How do we know the work is right? Those were sandbox questions then. They are leadership questions now.

Harnesses, loops, context systems, and agent architectures became part of my working vocabulary. Today, I design AI systems that can reason through work, use tools, and operate within clear human boundaries. The technology became more capable, and the responsibility grew with it. AI did not remove the thinking. It demanded better thinking.
